New Pattern of UGC NET

SCHEME OF TEST: i)The Test will consist of two papers. Both the papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be held on 08th July, 2018 (SUNDAY) in two separate sessions as under:

Paper-I shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions each carrying 2 marks. The questions which will be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.
Paper-II shall consist of 100 objective type compulsory questions each carrying 2 marks which will be based on the subject selected by the candidate.
All the questions of Paper II will be compulsory, covering entire syllabi of earlier Paper II & Paper III (including all electives, without options).
The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper I & Paper II on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Sheet provided along with the test booklet.

Reactivation of IGNOU eGyanKosh

IGNOU is reactivating its popular educational resource portal eGyanKosh. In view of the national requirement the University has taken a decision to reactivate the portal on ‘as-is-where-is basis’IGNOU initiated the development of a knowledge repository named e-GyanKosh (www.egyankosh.ac.in) in October, 2005, to store, index, preserve, distribute and share the digital learning resources developed by the ODL institutions in the country. It emerged as one of the world’s largest educational resource repositories, and the access to the repository was open and free. Self-instructional print material of around 2565 courses (comprising more than forty thousand course modules) and 2389 video programmes of IGNOU have been digitised and uploaded on the repository.After its public launch in June 9, 2008, the site received more than 20 lakh hits, and was having more than 1,000 visits per day from all over the world. There were more than 3 lakh active registered users of the repository as reported last.The statistics clearly indicates the popularity of e-GyanKosh.eGyankosh was not only popular amongst the IGNOU community, but also student and teaching community of other educational institutions across the country as well as worldwide. IGNOU has been playing pivotal role in distance education and as a National Resource Centre for Open and Distance Learning using innovative technologies and methodologies with international recognition and presence. Reactivation of eGyanKosh may also provide an integral base for two major initiatives of MHRD, the National Digital Library (NDL) and the SWAYAM (India MOOCS) programme and similar other platforms. e-Shodh Sindhu: The New Consortium

Based on the recommendation of an Expert Committee, the MHRD has formed e-Shodh Sindhu merging three consortia initiatives, namely UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium, NLIST and INDEST-AICTE Consortium.The e-Shodh Sindhu will continue to provide current as well as archival access to more than 15,000 core and peer-reviewed journals and a number of bibliographic, citation and factual databases in different disciplines from a large number of publishers and aggregators to its member institutions including centrally-funded technical institutions, universities and colleges that are covered under 12(B) and 2(f) Sections of the UGC Act.

Aims and Objectives

The main objective of the e-Shodh Sindu: Consortia for Higher Education E-Resources is to provide access to qualitative electronic resources including full-text, bibliographic and factual databases to academic institutions at a lower rates of subscription. The major aims and objectives of the e-Shodh Sindhu are as follows:
  1. Setting-up e-Shodh Sindu: Consortia for Higher Education E-Resources by augmenting and strengthening activities and services offered by three MHRD-funded Consortia;
  2. Develop a formidable collection of e-journals, e-journal archives and e-books on perpetual access basis;
  3. Monitor and promote usage of e-resources in member universities, colleges and technical institutions in India through awareness and training programmes;
  4. Provide access to subscription-based scholarly information (e-books and e-journals) to all educational institutions;
  5. Provide access to scholarly content available in open access through subject portals and subject gateways;
  6. Bridge digital divide and move towards an information-rich society;
  7. Provide access to selected e-resources to additional institutions including open universities and MHRD-funded institutions that are not covered under existing consortia;
  8. Take-up additional activities and services that require collaborative platform and are not being performed by existing Consortia; and
  9. Moving towards developing a National Electronic Library with electronic journals and electronic books as its major building blocks.
